About Me

I am a BACP accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with seventeen years experience of working with people from all walks of life experiencing a wide range of challenges.

My Style

 Counselling

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and this form of Counselling is concerned with how our experiences impact our thinking, feeling and behaviour. I see therapy as a collaborative process in which you are the expert of your inner world and I am there to assist you in understanding your processes. It is like your inner world is a jigsaw puzzle and through our conversations we gather pieces of information and working theories that help us to create a picture of what is happening and help you understand what might need to shift to get where you want to go. I have worked in several university settings, a service for men who have been sexual abused and raped as well as having extensive experience with issues such as bereavement, identity and relationship issues and self esteem issues. I see the therapeutic process as empowering and my role is to help you in acquiring the tools to support yourself both internally and externally far beyond our work together.

Single Session Therapy

The idea behind Single Session Therapy is that you may have one pressing concern which you would like the space to explore , reflect on. You may also want to think about ideas or strategies you can take away to work on but you do not necessarily think you want ongoing sessions. These sessions are 90 minutes long and people find them helpful for addressing specific or short term issues.

Supervision

I am also a qualified supervisor and manager and used to supporting other therapists so this also affects my perspective as I am able to support others in reflecting on and their work, challenging where appropriate whilst helping them feel contained and confident in their practice and decision making. I have supported therapists at all stages of their career including trainees and newly qualifed therapists and understand hoe helpful it can be to have a supportive space to reflect on one's practice as a fledgling therapist.
